Abstract

Objective of the study is the creation of a descriptive neurological model of the processes of the transformation of verbal instructions into a state of readiness of the nervous system to solve a motor task in a particular way.

Methods and structure of the study. The method of theoretical and conceptual modelling was used in the research, directed at constructing a descriptive model of the neuromotor mechanisms that ensure the formation and realisation of motor sets. The model is constructed on the basis of an analysis of data on the functional role of the speech, cognitive, emotional-motivational, associative and sensorimotor structures of the nervous system, as well as of their interaction in the process of motor programming and control.

Results and conclusions. The type of motor set influences the parameters of the motor action. With a set for ‘force/power’ the technique is restructured to favour the manifestation of power at the expense of economy and accuracy. With a set for ‘technique’ the brain concentrates attention on creating a biomechanically expedient structure of the movement, but may thereby limit the ultimate power of the working efforts. If the set diverges from the athlete’s current state or contradicts an already formed motor skill, then the system of motor programming will most probably shift towards protective motor strategies.
