The effectiveness of kickboxing techniques in winning a bout by knockout

Objective of the study is to identify the effectiveness of the kickboxing techniques that determine victory in a bout by knockout.
Methods and structure of the study. A video analysis was carried out of 86 professional bouts held under K-1 rules and ending in a knockout. The significance of the kickboxing techniques in achieving victory by knockout was calculated from the frequency with which a knockout was achieved by the technique applied.
Results and conclusions. It was established that the effectiveness of the high roundhouse kick and of the high hook in ending a bout by knockout is determined by striking the opponent’s head. Strikes to the abdomen and thigh are also effective means of ending a bout by knockout. The least effective techniques were found to be the heel kick and the jumping punch.
