Social support as a strategic factor in the integration of young athletes into the social environment

Objective of the study is to identify the factors impeding the social support and social integration of young athletes.
Methods and structure of the study. The principal method of collecting empirical data was an online survey of 78 coaches and methodologists of the «Sambo-70» Centre for Sport and Education. A questionnaire was developed which included the study of the factors impeding social integration and of sports educators’ assessment of the measures of social support for young athletes.
Results and conclusions. The greatest difficulties of the social integration of young athletes are the disruption of the balanced relationship between sport and education, the absence of plans for the future, and chronic overload and stress as a consequence of systematic physical loads. Of the greatest significance among the measures of social support are the creation of opportunities for obtaining an education and the implementation of educational programmes with a flexible timetable.
